I love to balance city travel with the tranquility of rural landscapes, so a side trip from Vancouver to Whistler seemed like a great fit for our itinerary…
More than anywhere I’ve ever been, Portland is a city where the food, the people and the atmosphere shine brightest.
Even with all the interesting places we visited and sights we saw, it was during the time spent wandering different neighbourhoods, interacting with wonderfully polite and friendly residents and eating too much delicious food (number 4 on my list especially!) that I felt really got to the heart of the place.
If that sounds like your kind of city too, read on for 10+ ideas to spend 3 days in Portland!
My weekend in Baker City did not have the most auspicious of beginnings.
First, I’d chosen the destination practically at random. My only criterion was proximity to Sumpter Valley Railway, where Ben was attending a steam locomotive event. Second, I’d done no research whatsoever. This bout of what I can only call “travel apathy” is very out of character. What was Baker City like? Was there anything to do in town, especially in October? I hadn’t the faintest idea.
How surprising, then, that this weekend became one of my favourite parts of our Pacific northwest trip! Baker City’s blend of history and charming architecture alongside rugged natural beauty won me over almost immediately.
Here are 4 lovely things I got up to during the course of my visit…
Decked out with bright yellow chevrons, oversized light bulbs and the angelic faces of Ziggy Stardust, the Eva Street laneway in Wellington is undeniably a visual treat. It’s also home to some of my favourite food-related spots in the city: Six Barrel Soda Co’s tasting shop, Leeds Street Bakery, Pomodoro Pizza and of course, my subject for today, the wonderful Wellington Chocolate Factory…
Who among us isn’t curious to taste a slice of paradise? I’m not usually a beach person (with this exception) but I’d heard such great things about the Cook Islands that my interest was piqued. And in many ways it lived up to or surpassed my expectations. So following our trip last year, I wanted to pull together a Cook Islands travel guide to share all my research and help others plan a dream Cook Islands getaway!
